Yesterday there was a race in Rütenbrock in Germany. Rütenbrock isn't too far away, it's 50 km between here and there. Last year, I rode over there with Harry to take part in the event. This time, Judy and I rode together. It made for a very enjoyable day out ... The cycle paths between here and the race are (mostly) rather wonderful. 8 of us rode from Toutle to Johnston Ridge at the end of SR 504 today ... That's the same route that Tour de Blast takes up Mt Saint Helens ... It's a nice ride with 5431 ft of climbing in the 41 miles up ... The descent back to Toutle is "almost" free ... "Almost" in that there is a climb back up to Elk Rock that provides the lion's share of the 1702 feet of climbing on the return trip ... We started from Toutle at 7AM to beat the predicted heat.
